Awaiting pseudo-science explanations of crazy sky lights over Norway…

There were the weirdest looking skylights over norway last night. The above picture doesn’t quite capture the weirdness. You’ll have to check out the videos (below) to see that the spiral was actually spinning quite quickly.

It will be interesting to see how out-of-hand the bogus explanations of this phenomenon get. Already we’ve seen headlines such as the UK Sun’s “Spiral UFO puts Norway in a spin”. Besides the headline, the Sun piece wasn’t bad actually. They spoke to he chief scientist at the at the Norwegian Space Centre, Erik Tandberg, who said “I agree with everyone in the science community that this light was the weirdest thing. I have never seen anything like this ever.”

Nobody’s quite sure what it was yet. Explanations vary from a srange astronomical phenomenon to a natural meteorological one or even possibly a man made phenomenon resulting from military testing of missiles or lasers.

I’ll post a follow up soon about the most ridiculous explanations presented in the media. This should be fun.
